Mindfulness is the ability to focus on the present moment while being aware of your surroundings while acknowledging and accepting your thoughts and feelings. How can this benefit you? Some students may be stressed, nervous, or anxious at the start of a new school year. When confronted with these feelings or stressful events it’s important to remain calm and to have awareness of how your body is responding. We can regulate the stress responses to have a healthier mind and body by incorporating different practices into our lives. One simple exercise you can do to remain calm in your life is to participate in mindfulness practice. As I mentioned previously mindfulness means to pay attention to the present moment. One way to do this is by paying attention and being aware of your breathing.
